Technical Specifications and Information

The South African National standard for concrete paving blocks is SANS 1058: 2012.

Bosun’s factories in Midrand, Brits and PE are amongst the first manufacturers of concrete paving blocks to be awarded the SANS 1058: 2012 mark. All three of our factories manufacture products according to the required specifications and product guarantees are based on the same rule.

Bosun kerbs and retaining wall blocks also comply with SANS specifications.

Bosun and our sister company, SmartStone, are the only South African manufacturers belonging to the Interlocking Concrete Paving Institute (ICPI).

This American-based association is the authority for segmental concrete pavement systems, which are universally recognised as the best value for pavements. The ICPI’s mission is to deliver education and technical guidance leading to awareness, acceptance and use of segmental concrete pavement systems in North America and now South Africa.

Paving is susceptible to numerous things, whether they be natural occurrences, a result of poor installation or general carelessness. Certain conditions may reduce the structural integrity of the installation, change its appearance or both. In this section we identify what can go wrong and what can affect your paving after installation.
